Offer Description
As part of the REVOICE project (Recovering Women’s Voices in the History of Film Culture: Journalists, Critics, and Editorial Workers in 1940s France and Italy) carried out within LASLAR (Laboratoire Lettres, Arts du spectacle, Langues Romanes), the successful candidate will conduct research on women who contributed to film culture, particularly in the field of film journalism, in France and Italy during the 1940s. The project focuses on journalists, critics, translators, editorial secretaries and other editorial workers whose career trajectories, professional practices and relational networks shaped the invisible infrastructures of the circulation of film discourse. Moving beyond approaches focused exclusively on public visibility, the project aims to investigate the professional and social dynamics operating behind the scenes.
The research will be based on the study of archival collections, particularly those preserving correspondence and working documents, the analysis of specialised and general-interest periodicals, and the development of a digital inventory of sources. It will adopt a transnational perspective and draw on an interdisciplinary approach at the intersection of film history, cultural history, gender studies and the digital humanities.
The successful candidate will undertake two research stays at the SAGAS Department (Dipartimento di Storia, Archeologia, Geografia, Arte e Spettacolo) of the Università degli Studi di Firenze, as part of a scientific collaboration between the two institutions. These stays will be devoted to research in Italian archival collections and to the development of scientific collaborations with the SAGAS research team.
The successful candidate will participate in the scientific activities of LASLAR and SAGAS, contribute to the organisation of an international study day, disseminate research findings through publications and presentations at major international conferences on the history of women in cinema, and contribute to the outreach activities planned by the project for cultural heritage institutions, associations and the general public.
This position is subject to the award of FEDER funding under the regional programme "Objectif Labels d’excellence"
