Postdoctoral Researcher in Medical Education

At the division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, belonging to the department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology (CLINTEC), we educate students in the Swedish national medical programme, including international students. In addition, we maintain a close collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital and are also involved in the training of specialists in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

As a postdoctoral researcher within the division, you will have the opportunity to contribute by improving medical education through research. The position is a fixed-term postdoctoral appointment for a period of 2 years.

Your mission

As a postdoctoral researcher you will be working in the research group of professor Ganesh Acharya. You will contribute to the development of pedagogical methods and curricula, as well as pedagogical approaches and educational tools used in simulation based-learning and clinical education. You will take part in the planning, design and conduct of research projects in medical education. The pedagogical research aims to strengthen both clinical and non-clinical competencies among doctors, midwives, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Special focus will be in areas such as students health, safety and wellbeing, cyber security in medical education and clinical practice, responsible use of artificial intelligence in medical education. The role also includes evaluation of new and emerging teaching and learning methods. The position involves teaching activities, as well as writing research proposals and applying for external research funding. Furthermore, you are expected to author and publish scientific articles and reports in international journals and to present research findings through academic and scientific channels, including conferences.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD in technology or medicine or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. In addition, you are required to have the following in order to be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher:

Requirements

You possess scientific competence relevant to the field of research and have substantial knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Data analysis and modelling using R software, machine learning methods and coding using Python
• Image and video analyses using machine learning/artificial intelligence (AI)
• Developing innovative digital and online learning methods and tools, including training in simulated environments
• Supporting teaching and facilitating students learning in formal educational settings
• Up to date knowledge of current developments in medical and health professions education
• Previous experience in developing and evaluating courses and curricula, preferably in a professional context
• Teaching and assessment of clinical and nonclinical skills and experience in giving feedback
• Experience in leading, conducting, and evaluating competency-based training

Meritorious requirements

• Degree in medicine (MD) or midwifery with a license to practice in Sweden
• Experience in writing research proposals and applying for grants
• Previously awarded fundings and relevant scientific publications

You have excellent collaboration- and communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team. Furthermore, you have a structured approach to your work, ensure high quality, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills. Since the position requires collaboration with both national och international students, colleagues and other partners, good knowledge of both Swedish and English, both written and spoken, is required. In the assessment of candidates, considerable weight will be given to personal suitability.
