Postdoctoral Researcher in Precision Fermentation
The Riddet Institute is a world-best New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence in food and nutritional sciences, providing fundamental scientific understanding and training for a new generation of science leaders. The Institute integrates partner organisations (Massey University (host), Auckland and Otago Universities, Bioeconomy Science Institute) and disciplines, leading a 'NZ Inc' approach to food research, and generates knowledge and capability that transforms the New Zealand food industry.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi - About the role
We seek a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to work primarily on a Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) research project entitled 'New Zealand precision fermentation: from local bioresources to high value proteins'.
We are seeking expertise in precision fermentation of metabolites, with demonstrated experience in metabolic pathway engineering, transmembrane protein expression, and functional characterisation, to contribute to cutting-edge research at the interface of biotechnology and sustainable bio-based production.
This in-person role is based at the Massey University Palmerston North campus, located in the heart of a vibrant, welcoming city known for its affordability, easy commute, quality schools, and lively arts and recreation scene. The campus offers park-like surroundings, strong community, and modern learning and research facilities.
This appointment is for a fixed term of three years.
Mōu - About you
The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in industrial biotechnology, synthetic biology, biochemical engineering, microbiology, or related disciplines with demonstrated expertise in precision fermentation of microbes (yeasts/fungi). Knowledge of microbial strain engineering and improvement, and molecular identification is desirable.
The candidate will also demonstrate effective communication and problem-solving skills, as well as high motivation and enthusiasm to work with an interdisciplinary team in food bioprocessing/sciences.

The annual salary will depend on experience but will be in the range of Postdoctoral Fellow ($86,113 - $103,953).
