Offer Description
This postdoctoral position is offered within the framework of the interdisciplinary research project 3CI (Computer-aided assessment of the Cortico-Cardiovascular Interaction for monitoring the stress of athletes), funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR). The 3CI project is a collaboration between four major institutions: INRIA (French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation), INSEP (National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance), Université Paris-Saclay, and Nantes Université.
The 3CI project aims to develop robust stress indicators by designing a multimodal approach that relies on synchronized neuro-physiological signals. Simultaneous recording of cortical and cardiovascular activities is conducted—including electroencephalogram (EEG), functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS), electrocardiogram (ECG), continuous blood pressure (BP), and photoplethysmography (PPG)—, during both cognitive and physical stress. These signals are leveraged by integrating mathematical models of brain-heart interaction, advanced signal processing, and learning methods- that complement each other to extract relevant patterns and stress indicators. The specific objectives of the project are to: (i) simultaneously collect EEG, fNIRS, ECG, BP, and PPG signals in response to cognitive and physical stressors, (ii) develop a combined signal processing and artificial intelligence (AI) framework for the characterization and extraction of relevant stress activity, with an emphasis on individual specificity and time-variability, (iii) analyze both cortical and cardiovascular activities, identify the most significant for stress monitoring, and identify the complementarity of the different modalities , and (iv) build a dynamic model of brain-heart interaction that provides quantitative insight into stress levels, and create a mathematical framework for model calibration and identification of key parameters.
This postdoctoral project will focus on collecting data from elite athletes during periods of training overload and in the leadup to competitions. The aim is to evaluate the relevance of physiological and psychological stress markers captured under real performance conditions. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the design, execution, and analysis of experimental studies conducted with both elite athletes and healthy participants (e.g., stress induction protocols, psychological stress measurements). They will also be responsible for the development and validation of psychological stress assessments (e.g., stress appraisals, stress mindset, perceived workload), as well as for data processing and scientific writing.
Duration of contract : 15 months
Salary : € 2.850 gross per month
