Minimum Qualifications
Completion of high school and six months of electrical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Note: Maintains required certifications.
Essential Job Functions
- This position is responsible for working with live high voltage conductors, maintenance of electrical equipment, installation of underground power lines, and the repair of overhead lines and poles.
- Will install and maintain NRLP's fiber optic network cables.
- Climbing, hand work, digging, heavy lifting, and all weather work is required.
- This position must be able to train and assist less experienced "B" line workers with the proper repair of live high and low voltage lines.
- This position must be familiar in the use of various powered equipment and safety techniques including; climbing gear, bucket/digger trucks, excavators, high voltage gloves, and hoses.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities that involve the construction, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage underground and overhead primary and secondary electric distribution lines.
- Applies thorough knowledge of all applicable codes and methods of installation and repair
- Read and interpret schematics drawing and recommend corrective actions.
- Must have the ability to operate University owned vehicles with valid driver's license.
- Demonstrates journeyman level skills and knowledge, with ability to complete both physical and technical duties.
- Must live or relocate to within approximately 20 minute commute of Boone within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school graduate.
- Credentials from an Electrical Utility Lineman School Program and 4 years of electrical Lineworker related work experience or 5 years of electrical Lineworker related work experience.
- Lives within 20 minutes of Boone, NC.
- Holds DoL Journeyman credentials.
- Holds CDL Class B license.
AS A MINIMUM Completion of high school and 4-year minimum of recent high voltage electrical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have knowledge of electric power distribution lines, National Electric Safety Code, electrical theory, system service rules and regulations and pertinent policies and practices. Ability to safely work on energized and de-energized lines. Ability to lift more than 50 lbs. Ability to climb poles, work at heights, and perform strenuous physical tasks in various weather conditions.
Work Schedule/Hours: Mon-Fri, 7:00-4:00 pm Some call back and after hours required. Designated as MANDATORY, this position is expected to be available for work during NRLP/University emergencies, closings, adverse weather conditions, and other department defined events. Will be part of after hours on call response rotation. Must live or relocate to within approximately 20 minute commute of Boone within 90 days of hire.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $69,878 - $80,864
