Department Summary: The pre-press coordinator prepares submitted files for printing across a variety of formats and devices and typesets or designs files as needed within University brand templates. Specific duties include:
- Makes technical design decisions to prepare files for effective and efficient print production across a wide variety of printing formats and product types.
- Applies judgment to optimize files in ways that support production efficiency and revenue goals, including collaborating with clients on adjustments that improve output and reduce production complexity.
- Leads quality assurance for a wide range of printed projects, using design expertise to review proofs, identify production issues, and ensure the final product meets visual and production standards.
- Processes and prepares digital files for printing production; outputs files to various devices; troubleshoots problems with digital files; corrects and rebuilds files; and advises original file creator.
- Performs fundamental type and layout design using wide format and digital templates.
- Works with advanced graphic design concepts and utilizes design software (i.e., Adobe
- Assists with the maintenance of the Ohio University Printing website as needed.
- Trains staff and clients on the use of on-line ordering and other graphic production software (i.e., best practices & digital printing).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Profile: Responsible for the production, planning, scheduling, and coordination of printed and/or digital books, catalogs, publications, t-shirts, signs, and other materials. May perform laser engraving services. Maintains press, bindery, and copier equipment.
Level Summary: Provides professional expertise to the University community. Serves as a resource and guide to others in the department and/or university. Completes operational tasks essential for the daily functioning of the University. Additionally, contributes to larger projects or initiatives that align with department or University goals, often collaborating across teams.
Supervisory Responsibilities: May assist in mentoring or training new employees.
Fiscal Responsibilities: No budgetary responsibility. May be responsible for validating transactions.
Problem Solving: Handles a variety of problems with some independence.
Independence of Action: Some supervision; able to work independently on routine tasks.
Communication and Collaboration: Collaborates with team members and shares knowledge.
Physical Requirements: This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
Minimum Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 3-5 years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of graphic design software with an emphasis on the Adobe Creative suite.
- Familiarity with design for wide format printing.
- Work experience in a higher education or in-plant printing environment.

Pay Rate: The proposed salary range for this position is $43,888- $62,459. The salary negotiated at the time of offer will be commensurate with education and experience while also considering internal equity.
