Principal Endpoint Engineer
Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
As Principal Endpoint Engineer, you will play a senior technical leadership role in shaping the future of UC’s endpoint, virtualised computing and cloud-first environments. You will lead architecture, engineering, automation and optimisation activities that help modernise computing services and improve the experience of staff, students, teaching and research communities.
This is an opportunity to influence how UC moves from legacy and decentralised systems to secure, scalable and centrally managed services. You will help define technology roadmaps, establish reusable design standards, and design modern endpoint management, virtual desktop and hybrid cloud solutions that balance consistency, security, supportability and local university needs.

You are an experienced senior technical specialist who enjoys solving complex technology challenges, shaping technical direction and bringing others with you. You are comfortable working at both strategic and hands-on levels, and you can turn complex technical ideas into clear, practical guidance for technical and non-technical audiences.
- 10+ years’ experience leading technical solution design and architecture across endpoint, virtualisation and cloud-based computing environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline (NZQA Level 7)
- Expert knowledge of modern endpoint management, including Microsoft Intune, cloud-first device management and contemporary provisioning approaches
- Proven experience designing scalable enterprise computing, virtual desktop and hybrid cloud solutions
- Experience implementing automation, security frameworks, Zero Trust principles and cloud-first computing solutions
- Strong strategic thinking and influence, with experience in roadmap planning, service improvement, project leadership and managing technical debt
- Sound experience in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and architectural decision-making
- Accuracy, reliability and strong attention to detail
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Relevant certifications in cloud computing, endpoint management or enterprise architecture, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solutions Architect or TOGAF
- An active commitment to upholding UC values, tikanga and kawa, with competency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga considered an advantage.
