Professional in Residence - EMS, Paramedic
Position Announcement
Join Utah Valley University and help prepare the next generation of Emergency Medical Services professionals. This Professional in Residence faculty position offers the opportunity to share real-world EMS and paramedic expertise with students through a variety of instructional formats, including face-to-face, online, hybrid, and live-stream courses. Faculty members play an important role in shaping student success, contributing to program assessment, and supporting the growth of the EMS profession through service and community engagement. This position is ideal for experienced EMS professionals who are passionate about teaching, mentoring students, and making a meaningful impact in higher education while remaining connected to the evolving needs of the emergency medical services field.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
- Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
- Engages in student recruitment, adjunct training, overseeing courses with many sections, evaluating concurrent enrollment teachers, and assisting in clinical, internship, and coaching placement.
- Serves the department and community by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other department and community-facing service appointments. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a field of study directly related to the summary of duties, plus 8 years paid full-time experience related to the program and discipline with 3-years teaching within discipline. This position is intended to be a full-time, program-building position with time and energy commitments equal to those expected from a tenure-track assistant professor.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate degree in a related discipline plus 10-years of experience as a paid full-time paramedic provider in a 911-dispatched pre-hospital EMS system, 3-years critical care experience with commensurate certifications, 3-years teaching in higher education or critical care.
- Critical Care Certification(s) (i.e. FP-C, CCP-C, CEN, TNCC, CCRN, etc.)
- PHTLS Instructor certification
- AMLS Instructor certification
- GEMS Instructor certification
- EPC Instructor certification
- AHA Affiliate Faculty or AHA Training Center Coordinator experience
- Utah Bureau of EMS Instructor Endorsement
- Utah BEMS Course Coordinator Endorsement
- Experience Teaching College Level EMS/Critical Care courses
Licenses or Certifications:
Utah Bureau of EMS Paramedic licensure, or (As per CAAHEP standard III.B.1.b). May consider a candidate with substantial experience in out-of-hospital emergency care, with academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services, and with healthcare licensure at least equivalent to that of a paramedic. Submit supporting documentation.
