Clinical radiotherapy concerning external radiotherapy and brachytherapy is a broad field of central importance in modern cancer treatment. The subject encompasses the full spectrum of oncological questions related to radiotherapy with the overarching goal of achieving the best individual response in both curative and palliative cancer treatment while minimizing side effects on surrounding tissues and functions.
The research questions may, for example, involve gaining a better understanding of tumor and organ-at-risk radiosensitivity, methodologies and biomarkers for predicting treatment response, increasing the precision of delivered radiotherapy, and exploring how radiotherapy can be combined with other types of cancer treatment such as chemotherapy, surgery, targeted drugs and immunotherapy. Studies may integrate molecular insights into cancer development and radiosensitivity, new oncological treatments, as well as advanced modeling and imaging. The research uses experimental, translational, and clinical studies including clinical trials.
