At the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS), world‑leading research is conducted in the areas of aging, dementia, epidemiology, and care sciences. The research spans from basic science at the molecular and cellular level to clinical studies and population‑based research. Approximately one third of Karolinska Institutet’s undergraduate and master’s students complete their education at NVS. The department, with around 540 employees and consists of seven divisions and is located on Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
The Division of Physiotherapy is dedicated to providing high‑quality education and research in physiotherapy. Education is offered at the undergraduate level (physiotherapy programme), advanced level (one‑year master’s programme), and doctoral level. In addition, the division offers a range of standalone courses and commissioned education programmes.
Description of the subject area
The subject of physiotherapy takes human movement as its point of departure for understanding function, activity performance, and how movement promotes health. Research in the field contributes to the development of knowledge, theories, and evidence‑based interventions. Physiotherapy is an interdisciplinary discipline with specialisations such as neurology, orthopaedics, respiration, circulation, geriatrics, and paediatrics.
Your mission
At the Division of Physiotherapy, you will find a stimulating and creative work environment alongside dedicated colleagues engaged in high‑quality research and education. As a professor, you are expected to lead and further develop the division’s research activities and physiotherapy education with strong commitment.
In addition to conducting high‑level internationally leading research, you will be responsible for and participate in leading the pedagogical development. In addition your role is to strengthen the research foundations of the educational programmes and enhance collaboration with clinical partners. The position entails responsibility for shaping and coordinating the research profile of the subject area, fostering clinical collaboration, and supervising students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers across various areas of physiotherapy.

To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on education and research the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical skills; very good scientific skills;and clinical skills.

Further eligibility requirements
- You must be a licensed physiotherapist.
- It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, or have gained equivalent competence, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
- Since the employment includes teaching at undergraduate level, you must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR).
Assessment criteria
The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (3), leadership and collaboration skills (2) and clinical skills(2).

It is furthermore meritorious that you have demonstrated
- Experience and expertise in leading and coordinating academic and clinical physiotherapy
- Experience and proficiency in developing physiotherapy as a main disciplinary subject
