Duties and responsibilities
The position involves teaching, research and development activities in accordance with Annex 2 of the Academic Career Regulations of the Estonian University of Life Sciences (Regulation No. 1-28/7 of the EMU Senate, adopted on 27 February 2020 and amended by Regulation No. 1-28/2 of the EMU Senate on 27 March 2026) in the field of horticultural product processing and valorisation. The focus is on the application of modern processing technologies for the valorisation of horticultural products and by-products generated during their production into food and non-food products.
Teaching duties include teaching in Estonian within the Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Horticulture, providing academic leadership across different levels of higher education, and developing and updating courses in the field. The position also involves developing the micro-credential programme “Preservation, Processing and Valorisation of Horticultural Products” in cooperation with the Chair of Horticulture and the Head of the Master's Programme in Horticulture. Responsibilities further include supervising bachelor's, master's and doctoral students.
Research and development duties include initiating research activities; applying for and conducting research and applied research projects at both national and international levels; participating in international scientific networks; publishing research results in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals; and disseminating research findings to professional audiences in both Estonian and English. The position also requires active cooperation with industry partners, professional associations and public authorities, as well as contributing to advisory and decision-making bodies within the university and the field.

Required education level
Doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification in agriculture or food science.
Required experience
- Experience in teaching at different levels of higher education;
- Experience in supervising Master's students and at least one successfully defended doctoral student;
- A proven track record in applying for and managing research projects;
- Internationally recognised research achievements in horticulture, processing and valorisation of plant-based food raw materials, or a closely related field, with an overall scientific output comparable to at least two doctoral dissertations;
- A consistent record of publishing research results in internationally recognised peer-reviewed scientific journals;
- Experience in presenting research findings at international scientific conferences and professional networks;
- Experience in developing cooperation with other research institutions, public sector organisations, companies and professional associations.

Application documents
To participate in the competition, candidates are required to submit the following documents by e-mail to konkurss@emu.ee by September 15, 2026:
- an application to the Rector;
- a copy of the document certifying education and/or academic degree;
- CV (curriculum vitae) and a structured list of scientific publications of recent ten years, in the Estonian Research Information System (ETIS) standard format (up to ten significant publications from the earlier period may be included at will); information on academic work and in-service training done within five recent years shall be enclosed with the CV;
- the candidate for the position of Professor shall submit motivation letter reflecting the candidate’s vision about the development of this specific research field and related international cooperation in the university, and the measures that the candidate is going to take for increasing the level of research and teaching in the field (max 1500 words);
- Researcher ID / ORCID / Google Scholar reference;
- other relevant materials at the discretion of the applicant.
Application documents shall be submitted in Estonian or in English. The candidate for the position of a professor shall submit the application documents in Estonian and English. As an exception, application documents may be submitted in English only, if Estonian is not expected from the position holder. The documents shall be submitted in the written form by e-mail to konkurss@emu.ee.
In case the applicant has obtained higher education in a foreign country, the University will ask for an assessment from the academic recognition information centre (Estonian ENIC/NARIC Centre) on the conformity of the qualification of the applicant to the qualifications required in the position.
Candidates for the position of professor may be required to deliver a public lecture (venia legendi) or to submit a video recording of the public lecture. The director of the institute decides whether the candidate must deliver a public lecture.
