About the Department
The Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) at Georgia State University in Atlanta operates an advanced technology content creation center and offers undergraduate bachelor (BA/BS) degree programs in Game Design & Development and a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) in Media Entrepreneurship, as well as an MFA concentration in Virtual Production. CMII employs research and teaching faculty, as well as industry-experienced Professors of Practice. CMII is an interdisciplinary unit in the College of Arts and Sciences, created to develop 21st century storytellers prepared for work in the media and arts industries, to mentor students interested in entrepreneurship, and to develop research-connected industry partnerships.
Position Description
The Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) at Georgia State University in Atlanta invites applications for a Professor of Practice position in the creative media industries, to start in fall 2026 pending final budget approval. We seek an individual with a nationally recognized record of achievement in the media industries, broadly defined (e.g., the candidate might bring experience as a content creator, game designer or development, an executive producer with expertise in production finance/logistics, technology-assisted story creation, audio design, emerging television and film, short form streaming and influencer content, etc.). We anticipate hires who bring a strong familiarity with creative industry transformations, especially relating to artificial intelligence.
Required Experience
Minimum of 15 years of relevant industry experience in content creation, media, or related sectors. Demonstrated professional engagement in content creation industries with the ability to connect academic programs to commercially viable projects. Experience collaborating with industry partners to support revenue-generating initiatives or partnerships. Experience teaching, training, or mentoring (academic classroom or corporate training preferred). Experience in curriculum development, student mentoring, and project supervision is preferred. Experience working with or managing industry collaborations and production pipelines.
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant creative, media, or related field
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Advanced degree not required, but candidates with advanced academic credentials in a creative or media-related discipline are welcomed.
Prior teaching experience in higher education or corporate training environments. Experience with curriculum development and student project supervision. Familiarity with production finance and business operations within the media industry. Experience developing or supporting industry-sponsored projects or collaborations. Demonstrated interest in working with students in emerging technology and media fields.

- Knowledge of emerging technologies including: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI tools, Virtual production pipelines, Extended Reality (AR/VR), Interactive gaming

- Proficiency with leading content creation software packages and tools.
- Ability to integrate new and evolving technologies into teaching and projects.
