About the Role
The Professor specialising in Power Systems Engineering will provide vision and leadership in advanced energy integration and foster excellence in research, teaching and industry collaboration. The successful applicant will also, as part of the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER), define, develop and drive a world leading research program bringing the University of Newcastle to the forefront of emerging energy integration technologies.
Energy integration is one of several global social and engineering trends that will shape the solutions to the key challenges of the next decades: resource stress, climate change, megacities, urbanisation, cybersecurity, and infrastructure resilience are major factors driving complexity. Advanced energy integration is an umbrella concept that encompasses activities tackled in the context of renewable energy systems and our shift to a distributed energy grid.
About you
You are dedicated and forward-thinking with expertise in Electrical Engineering ready to contribute to a thriving academic environment. You bring a strong research experience in power systems engineering, and a passion for advancing knowledge and practice in your field.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A PhD (or equivalent qualification) in Electrical or Electronics engineering with significant research experience in the power systems engineering field.
- Demonstrated sustained significant high-quality contribution to research in power systems engineering, including evidence of international and national research collaborations/partnerships and research leadership with research focus on the integration of renewable and distributed energy technologies and their impacts on electricity supply system resilience.
- Demonstrated recent record of successfully leading major funding initiatives and success in obtaining external competitive research funding.
- Demonstrated skills and effective record of primary supervision of Higher Degree by Research students with timely completions.
- Demonstrated recent record of high-quality scholarly teaching in electrical engineering across different levels and contexts utilising innovative and contemporary creative mediums.
- Demonstrated recent strategic leadership in the planning and delivery of course and curriculum, including undertake program convening and course coordination. Recognised as a ‘content specialist’, in areas related to power systems engineering.
- Skills in a range of higher-level internal duties, providing a strong contribution to external activities, and developing international collaborations.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including an inter-disciplinary way of working, capacity to build relationships and engagement with industry stakeholders.
