Goethe University Frankfurt am Main invites applicants for the position of:
Professor (W2) for Political Science with focus on violence research (focus on Global South)
in the Institute of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Science. This civil servant or public employee position will start as soon as possible.
Professorship Profile
The professorship is directly linked to the LOEWE Center “Dynamics of the Religious: Ambivalent Neighborships between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in Historical and Contemporary Constellations”, funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art, and Culture, and is expected to actively participate in it through a dedicated subproject.
Your Profile
We are seeking a candidate who can represent the discipline across the full spectrum of research and teaching. The candidate should have an established international reputation in the field of international relations, particularly inpeace and conflict studies, and should be able to demonstrate internationally recognized research achievements in the area of violence studies. A track record of successfully securing and carrying out externally funded projects is required.
Research is therefore expected on the interplay of religious, political, social, and cultural causes of violent conflicts in international contexts, as well as on the conditions, potentials, and limits of their resolution. A research interest in the conflict hotspots in the Near and Middle East or Southeast Asia, as well as in questions regarding the role of religion(s) in the context of local or geographically transnational conflicts, is desirable.
We expect a teaching commitment in all degree programs of the faculty. The professorship is also involved in teacher training; experience and concepts for teaching subject content in schools are welcome.

The employment requirements as defined in § 68 of HessHG apply. Among other things, this includes proof of aptitude for academic work (e.g., a doctorate), additional academic achievements (e.g., a habilitation or equivalent) and the subject-specific requirements listed under “Your profile” that are necessary for fulfilling the duties of the professorship.
