The Department of English is a dynamic and collegial department with research strengths in English Applied Linguistics including Educational Linguistics, Professional Communication, Healthcare Communication, and Multimodality and Digital Technologies. The Department is home to the New Frontiers in Professional Communication Lab and offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in English Studies.
We seek a distinguished scholar with an international reputation in 20th/21st century literature in English, World literature, transnational literature, and/or Asian literature.
Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Conduct research that is internationally excellent, publish and promote their research, secure research funding and pursue engagement activities leading to societal impact;
- Make a significant contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including supervising research students;
- Contribute to curriculum development through innovative discovery-enriched teaching;
- Play a role in shaping the future of the department by providing academic leadership and mentoring junior faculty;
- Contribute to the intellectual life of the department and university; and
- Provide leadership and service at the departmental, university and professional levels.
Requirements
Candidates for Professor should have a portfolio of outstanding contributions to their field of scholarship (including publications and grant capture), a strong teaching record, and a strong record of leadership in research and academic professional service.
Candidates for Associate Professor should have a strong record of internationally excellent contributions to their field of scholarship (including publications and grant capture), a strong teaching record, as well as evidence of significant contributions to academic and professional development.
A research agenda that complements or expands existing departmental strengths in Urban Narratives, World Literature, and Inter-Asia Cultural Studies is essential. This could include expertise in 20th/21st century literature in English, World literature, transnational literature, and/or Asian literature. An interest in creative writing would be an advantage.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
