The Bernburg-based Department of Agriculture, Ecotrophology and Landscape Development invites applications for the professorship of Animal Breeding and Animal Health Management (salary group W2) which is to be filled at the earliest possible date.
Job Description:
This professorship is responsible for the field of animal breeding with the areas of population genetics, anatomy, physiology and zoology, as well as animal health management with the areas of herd and performance management and the product quality of animal products of agricultural livestock species.
The position holder (m/f/x) represents the professorship in an application-oriented manner in teaching, continuing education and research.
Teaching activities have a clear focus on the professorship’s core areas. In addition to actively shaping existing modules in the department, participation in developing the range of programs and courses offered is also expected.
The position holder is responsible for teaching course content in English and German in Bachelor's/Master's degree programs using current approaches. Relevant course content includes, in particular, the fundamentals of zoology, anatomy, physiology, animal breeding, animal health management, and animal hygiene. The module courses assigned to the professorship are to be further developed using modern didactic methods and techniques. A particular focus is to be placed on digital teaching concepts. Current research findings are to be integrated into the curriculum.
The professorship requires a high level of commitment to supervising bachelor's and master's theses, student projects and excursions, as well as to the strategic further development of the consecutive degree programs, the expansion and development of career-integrated, continuing-education and cooperative/dual degree programs. Following a degree at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences includes intensive cooperation with companies as well as research and training partners.
To ensure the highest standards of research, we actively collaborate with national and international universities, research institutions, companies, professional associations, as well as other departments at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. Active participation in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects as well as research and development projects is expected.
Anhalt University of Applied Sciences has the right to award doctorates in research-intensive disciplines. Participation in the inter-university Doctoral Center "Life Sciences" and collaboration in the research area of the field of appointment are therefore desired.
Active participation in the University’s collaborative academic management structures (akademische Selbstverwaltung) is also one of the responsibilities of the professorship.
Requirement Profile:
We are looking for a personality with a proven track record in the field of appointment and relevant practical experience. Based on the area of responsibility of the professorship, expertise is required in the fields of reproduction biotechnology, product quality of animal products and herd and performance management.
With regard to animal breeding, expertise in the fields of population genetics and genomic selection, anatomy and physiology, including zoology, is expected. For animal health management, expertise in the areas of herd and performance management and animal hygiene is expected. Knowledge of product quality in the animal food sector and of influencing factors is desirable.
The applicant (m/f/x) has graduated with a relevant university degree (e.g. in agricultural / veterinary sciences) and has successfully completed a doctorate in the field of appointment.
Furthermore, the future position holder should demonstrate expertise in the acquisition and implementation of collaborative and/or externally funded projects with partners from academia and practice, as well as have published on the aforementioned focus areas.
International networking in the field of expertise of the professorship comes as an advantage.
A sound knowledge of the German and English languages is required, as are intercultural skills.
Employment requirements:
The formal recruitment requirements are based on Section 35 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA).
Appointment to a professorship is made for the first time upon fulfillment of the prerequisites for a probationary civil servant position. If the prerequisites are not met, a temporary employment relationship under private law can be established.
If the candidate proves successful during the probationary period, the appointment will be converted into a civil servant position for life or the employment relationship under private law will be made permanent.
