Professorship (W 3) Hydraulic Engineering and Flood Protection
The University of Wuppertal is a dynamic, networked and research-oriented campus university. Collectively, more than 25,000 researchers, academic staff and students face the challenges of science, education, culture, economics, society, technology and the environment.
The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in Hydraulic Engineering and Flood Protection. The position will be based in the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- In particular, research will focus on the planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of hydraulic engineering infrastructure, taking into account climate resilience and sustainability, as well as the application of mathematical-numerical methods for modelling hydrological processes and modern AI-supported approaches for forecasting and optimization.
- Furthermore, research in the field of ecological redesign of watercourses and interdisciplinary approaches to climate-adapted water resource management and urban water management is desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in scientific research and third-party funding acquisition is required.
- We warmly welcome participation in interdisciplinary collaborations, such as the Center for Climate Adaptation (ZKA), as well as networking in university research associations, such as the “Towards Zero Waste and Zero Carbon Technologies” and “Shaping Sustainable Societal Transformation” activity field and bilateral cooperation, e.g., with the Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Research.
- The professorship is integrated into the basic training of civil engineering in bachelor's and master's degree programmes and is also expected to play a key role in the planned master's degree programme in environmental protection. Coverage of key topics in hydraulic engineering and flood protection, along with corresponding teaching and research competence in both German and English (oral and written), is required.
- Participation in new interdisciplinary courses of study, e.g., computational engineering with a focus on flow simulations, is also desirable.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed university degree (master or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
- Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate on a relevant topic in the field of hydraulic engineering and flood protection
- Further relevant scientific achievements performed during a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad.
- Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure
You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by publications, relevant teaching experience, international orientation (e.g., international collaborations, activities in national and international bodies), the successful acquisition of third-party funds, project / practical experience. Please enclose relevant certificates and supporting documents with your application.
