Project & Operations Manager

About the Role

You are invited to apply for the position of Project and Operations Manager to join Professor James Chalmers’ research team at the University of Oxford. Professor James Chalmers specialises in translational and clinical research on respiratory diseases, including bronchiectasis, COPD and pneumonia, with a focus on microbiology, immunology, disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies. You will be expected to provide high quality technical assistance to Prof. Chalmers and the other members of the research team. You will facilitate the successful running and completion of the group’s ongoing projects. Duties will include procurement, liaising with industry, managing budgets, biobank management, completing audits, meeting compliance standards, supporting study setup and core trial management activities, supporting the generation and costings of project proposals, completion of ISO qualification and maintaining ongoing standards, generating high quality study reports, managing large-scale commercial studies and producing required documentation, assisting senior members of the team in managing the large research team (20+ members) and managing leave. You will also work closely with the clinical team to monitor participant recruitment and ensure recruitment targets are met, providing day-to-day coordination and support to recruitment activities as required.

This post is full-time and fixed term for 2 years. The post is only available as full-time on-site.

About You

To be considered for this position you should:

  • Hold a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or close to completion (e.g., biomedical sciences, life sciences, clinical research, or related field)
  • Have an understanding of clinical research processes, including clinical trial design, set-up, and delivery
  • Have experience working in a clinical research, academic, or healthcare research environment
  • Have experience supporting clinical trial management or research study coordination
  • Have experience in budget management or financial oversight within research projects
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly in documentation and compliance-related work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and documentation preparation
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams (clinical, academic, and operational staff)
