Project Inspector
Job Description
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Capital Planning & Construction, the Project Inspector / Clerk of the Works is Radford University’s primary representative onsite. The position provides daily inspections for quality assurance of Capital and Non-Capital construction projects. Responsibilities include daily reports on project status, coordination with contractors for quality control/quality assurance, and coordination with other third-party inspectors. The position will be assigned to multiple simultaneous construction projects and will ensure projects follow permitted plans & specifications. Projects may be at any Radford University campus. The position will monitor projects for general compliance with Radford University’s design and construction standards, policies, and procedures for quality assurance and control.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with complex building and infrastructure projects across diverse building construction methods
- Experience with construction scheduling, logistics, safety, and QA/QC
- Experience with design/construction documents and building codes
- Experience with contractual expectations and responsibilities, especially means & methods
- Skilled in clear, timely, and helpful communication
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and team-building skills
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Ability to maintain professional relationships with associates, subordinates, contractors, designers, and the university community
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education in a field related to construction
- Experience on "state-owned" projects with knowledge of higher education facilities requirements, especially in Virginia
- Experience with the processes and policies of the Commonwealth of Virginia Construction and Professional Services Manual (CPSM), notably Section 4.20 and Appendix N (2025 edition)
- Depth of knowledge in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression systems
- Understanding of Erosion and Sediment Control measures and installation practices with basic emphasis on compliance inspections, reporting, and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPP) monitoring
- Knowledge of scheduling software, Bluebeam, Project Management Information System platforms (Procore, BIM 360, etc.), and Microsoft Office
