The energy and digital transitions have profoundly reconfigured the place of strategic metals in contemporary economies. Their role now goes beyond the simple function of inputs: they structure technological trajectories, condition industrial strategies, and determine the ability of economies to reach their climate objectives. This new centrality, however, comes with structural vulnerability: primary production is concentrated in a limited number of countries, often exposed to geopolitical, environmental, or social risks.
In this context, recycling appears as an essential lever for securing supply. The dissertation will study how the interactions between price signals, energy costs, innovation, and public policies, on the one hand, and the macro-financial dynamics of energy, metal, and carbon markets, on the other hand, condition the rise of strategic-metal recycling, particularly for rare earths, which are characterized by the incompleteness of their markets

Skills/Qualifications
The candidate must have advanced training in econometrics and solid knowledge in environmental economics, with a particular focus on the economics of the energy transition.
Quantitative skills and experience with statistical or econometric software (such as R, Stata or Python) are expected. The candidate should demonstrate good analytical and writing abilities, as well as the capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.
Specific Requirements
The candidate must be able to work in English and communicate in French to participate in team activities and institutional tasks.

Selection process
The selection process includes two steps: (1) an eligibility and quality check based on the application file (CV, transcripts, motivation letter), and (2) an interview with the supervisors only if the application appears sufficiently aligned with the proposed PhD topic. The final decision will be based on academic merit, motivation, and adequacy with the research subject.
