REGISTERED NURSE: Ambulatory Care Services (C&W Adult Bone Marrow Transplant & Leukemia Clinic)
The Ambulatory Care RN is accountable for the delivery of direct patient care including patient education and the management of telephone triage in a clinical setting.
The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family; assesses the needs of the patient undergoing surgical/diagnostic/therapeutic procedures; plans, implements, and evaluates patient care; and teaches patients, families, orients colleagues and peers.

- Accountable for the delivery of direct patient care including patient education, symptom management, and telephone triage in a clinical ambulatory care setting to adult bone marrow transplant and leukemia patients.
- Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family; assesses the needs of the patient undergoing surgical/diagnostic/therapeutic procedures; plans, implements, and evaluates patient care; and teaches patients, families, orients colleagues and peers.
- Candidate will provide coverage within two nursing work teams in the BMT and Leukemia clinics.

- Delegates to other health care team members according to the Nurse Practice Act.
- Collaborates with medical staff to facilitate and optimize the care of the patient.
Research and Quality Improvement:
- Acts on behalf of patients and families to ensure care is safe and appropriate with consideration for values, diversity and human rights.
- Participates in nursing and medical research and facilitates transfer of new knowledge to patient care.
- Participates in the Quality Improvement Process.
Requirements of the Commission on Cancer Certification must be met within the triannual certification window proportionate to hire or transfer to the oncology area, details provided by leadership.
Required Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse to practice in the State of Michigan.
- Two (2) years of experience (within the last 3 years) managing care for the Hematology/Oncology patient population.

Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) or more years of recent (within the last 5 years) Ambulatory Care and/or BMT nursing experience.
- OCN or BMTCN certification
- ONS local and national membership
- BSN preferred
- Demonstrated ability to practice independently, set goals, promote teamwork, cross cover within clinical area, coordinate and perform multiple activities and problem solve as measured by interview, references and performance evaluations.
- Demonstrated ability to set and implement priorities, organize and delegate effectively and efficiently as evidenced by interview, references and performance evaluations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate well with others (including peers) as evidenced by interview, references and performance evaluations.
- Demonstrated abilities in interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills and problem-solving skills within all levels of the health care team, as evidenced by documentation, interviews, references, and performance evaluations.
- Proven self-directive ability with initiative, and creativity as evidenced by interview, references and performance evaluations.
Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.
Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.
Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort.
Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.
Hours: 40 hrs/wk (1.0 FTE)
Shift: Day Shift, Monday-Friday, Flexible hours to meet program needs. May require weekends and holiday.
Location: C&W Adult Bone Marrow Transplant & Leukemia Clinic.
All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
