Job Description:
The Bioacoustics and Behavioral Ecology Lab seeks a Research Analyst (RA) to support a diverse portfolio of research projects focused on the ecology and evolution of acoustic signaling and animal behavior. Diverse research topics in the lab span the fields of behavioral ecology, bioacoustics, and conservation biology. The RA will work closely with the PI, postdocs and graduate students in the lab to collect, manage, analyze, and interpret datasets. The RA will use cutting edge equipment and approaches to collect and analyze data to address questions in the fields of animal bioacoustics and conservation.
Projects involve terrestrial and marine studies in bioacoustics, including passive acoustic monitoring and fine-scale acoustic animal biologger data collection. This position requires a strong computational background, demonstrated experience with acoustic data analysis and statistical analysis, and enthusiasm for collaborative work. Excellent communication skills and a desire to train junior scientists are essential, as the position includes mentorship and training responsibilities.
Initial appointment for 1 year with possibility of renewal.
Education and Experience:
- M.S. in animal behavior, marine science, acoustics or related field or B.S. with two or more years of related work experience as evidenced in published work and/or CV.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Demonstrated experience analyzing acoustic datasets.
- Experience with marine data collection in freshwater or marine environments.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, Matlab).
- Knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning, or advanced data visualization.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Effective communication skills and interest in working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.
- Prior mentoring or teaching experience.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, perform and oversee computational analysis on collaborative bioacoustics research projects and/or fieldwork activities for data collection.
- Maintain and curate datasets, laboratory software with version control, and manage computing cluster and backup storage, including archiving datasets in open access repositories.
- Maintain and calibrate lab field equipment, computing infrastructure, and supplies necessary to support laboratory research.
- Train and assist undergraduate and graduate students with bioacoustics projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
