Research and Administration Assistant to the Paul Mellon Professor (Part Time)

The Faculty of History wished to recruit a part time (0.5FTE) Research and Administration Assistant to provide administrative, academic and research support for Professor Mia Bay, the Paul Mellon Professor of American History.

Professor Bay is a University Teaching Officer, who runs the Cambridge American History Seminar (CAHS)- a three-term public seminar for faculty, students, alumni and others with interests in American history. In addition, Professor Bay administers Mellon-funded prizes and other forms of support for Americanist faculty and students in the Faculty of History and oversees the Cambridge side of Cambridge-Boston University student exchange programme.

This post will provide administrative support for Professor Bay's teaching, research and administrative work, playing a key role in co-ordinating her day-to-day teaching tasks and communications, while also supporting with her longer-term research and programme-building projects, and with work relating to organizing and administrating CAHS.

Approximately 40% of the job will involve providing research and administrative support for Professor Bay's professional work, with the remaining 60% being dedicated to co-ordinating CAHS, and related American history conferences, workshops and initiatives. We are looking for someone with previous experience in a similar role who has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and is confident in using digital tools as you will be managing email, SharePoint, online systems and using web content management systems. The role requires someone with excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving and experience of organising a variety of academic events.

Experience of undertaking research tasks is an essential part of this role along with the ability to collate and present information clearly and coherently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and an ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
