Research Assistant (CBDS/ESE)

Job Description

The Duke-NUS Centre for Biomedical Data Science (CBDS) serves as a central hub for Duke-NUS faculty specialising in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other quantitative and data-driven sciences. CBDS functions as a strategic platform for cutting-edge research, education, and services in data science, AI, and biomedical computation, building on existing institutional initiatives such as DAISI.

We are hiring a Research Assistant/Research Associate for a 2-years contract. The position level will be determined based on qualifications and experience. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research developing AI-based models to predict cognitive decline in patients with cognitive impairment. The role emphasises computational and statistical methodologies to analyse multimodal data, enabling early detection and personalised interventions in clinical neuroscience.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with clinicians, postdoctoral researchers, data scientists, and the broader research community within SingHealth and the Academic Medical Centre, contributing to high-impact advancements in personalized medicine for cognitive health. This position offers hands-on training in cutting-edge AI techniques, mentorship from experienced researchers, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the early detection and prevention of cognitive disorders.

  • Assist in developing and validating machine learning-based predictive models using multimodal data (neuroimaging, clinical, biomarker, and demographic data).
  • Support the design and implementation of computational pipelines and statistical methods for data preprocessing, analysis, visualisation, and model interpretation, leveraging baseline and longitudinal datasets from Singapore and Southeast Asian cohorts.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple research workstreams concurrently, ensuring timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Provide support for grant/protocol development, study design, and management of research activities.
  • Participate in and present at lab meetings, local and international conferences, and contribute to high-impact publications.
  • Collaborate in the development of user-friendly tools, such as R Shiny applications, for clinical translation of predictive models.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to undergraduate/medical students and junior research staff as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, or related fields (PhD candidates nearing completion will also be considered).
  • Proficiency in R programming language for statistical modeling and data analysis.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation abilities, and meticulous record-keeping.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to prioritise, multi-task, and work independently in a dynamic research setting.
  • Knowledge or experience in deep learning, artificial intelligence, and machine learning methodologies (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with Python programming (Preferred).
