Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

A full time Research Assistant position is available within the group of Professors Frank Reimann and Fiona Gribble at the Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS), focussing on the gut-brain-pancreatic axis and its role in the control of insulin secretion and food intake. The group has a particular interest in developing new strategies for treating type 2 diabetes and obesity based on GLP-1 and other gut peptides.

The position holder will take responsibility for managing complex murine colonies. Specific responsibilities will include PCR genotyping, maintenance of accurate genotyping and breeding records, decision making about breeding and colony management, general laboratory support and maintenance of risk assessments and safety documents. Depending on the interests and skills of the candidate, they will also support other activities of the group, such as maintenance of intestinal organoid cultures and feeder cell lines or provision of murine surgical/phenotyping assistance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment and a security check.
