Research Assistant in Subcellular Neurodegeneration

University of Oxford - Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN)

Location:Oxford
Salary:£35,681 to £41,636 per annum
Hours:Part Time
Contract Type:Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On:13th April 2026
Closes:19th May 2026
Job Ref:185928

Location: Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Building, South Parks Road, OX1 3QU

We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join our laboratory investigating subcellular proteomic alterations in cortical neurons derived from patients with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

The successful candidate will work in Dr Ruxandra Dafinca’s team (https://www.ndcn.ox.ac.uk/team/ruxandra-dafinca) in a stimulating environment as part of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery.

Using induced pluripotent stem cell-derived neurons, our group aims to determine regulatory pathways affected by FTD/ALS by implementing the use of subcellular proteomics combined with transcriptomics and super-resolution imaging. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of novel strategies for high-resolution intracellular neuronal analysis in health and disease, which can be applied across several neurodegenerative disorders. The overarching goals of our work are to mechanistically understand the disease at the molecular level and to identify new therapeutic targets that can inform drug development for FTD.

In this role, you will be responsible for planning and conducting laboratory experiments, analysing their results and reporting them to the Principal Investigator. You will work with other team members and external collaborators to investigate subcellular protein interactions using mass-spectrometry, super-resolution microscopy and live cell imaging. You will also contribute to developing complex co-culture systems.

Please see the below 'Job Description' for further details on the responsibilities and selection criteria, as well as further information about the university and how to apply.

The post is part time at 0.75 FTE, for a fixed term of 12 months in the first instance.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Tuesday 19th May will be considered.

Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
