Research Assistant (Metabolic Phenotyping Core (MetCPU))

Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant in the Metabolic Phenotyping Core (MetCPU) at the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. MetCPU provides human metabolic phenotyping services for subjects in clinical studies, who are typically recruited by the researchers themselves. These services include oral and intravenous glucose tolerance tests, the mixed-meal tolerance test, glucagon stimulation tests, euglycemic and hyperglycemic clamp studies, and indirect calorimetry. The Core also collaborates and provides research support service to other researchers in NUS and NUH.

Appointments will be made on a 12-month contract basis, with the possibility of extension which is subject to funding availability and performance.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator, team members and collaborators to ensure the successful completion of research projects and smooth operation of MetCPU. The RA’s principal role is to provide integrated research, clinical, coordination, and administrative support, including serving as study coordinator and liaison with other study teams and collaborators.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will liaise with the relevant personnel in university, hospital, and collaborating laboratories to streamline recruitment, biospecimen collection, biospecimen flow and processing, data collection, data management and will be accountable to the Principal Investigator (PI). The RA will be able to:

  • Oversee the general management and day-to-day coordination of the multiple projects across study sites;
  • Provide administrative and secretarial support to the projects, such as organizing regular meetings to maintain regular communication with other members of the research team and collaborate with the study sites;
  • Undertake the day to day running of the project at the study site, e.g. Collaborate and coordinate with team members at the study sites, recruitment, data collection at hospitals/university/participants’ homes;
  • Maintain study database and tracking logs, as well as assist in preparing both progress and final reports of the project;
  • Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
  • Assist with ethics and grant applications, renewals, safety documents, and ongoing regulatory and grant administration.
  • Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI or team manager.

  • Assist with general upkeep of operation needs such as purchasing of items, tracking of inventory/consumables, maintain equipment, maintaining databases, protocols and documentation.
