Research Assistant
Tennessee State University College of Agriculture invites applications for the position of Research Assistant. A research assistant/associate position that involves a USDA funded project.
Emphasis will be placed in mapping the land holdings of small-scale row crop farmers in Tennessee and Alabama. This is a land mapping project with the goal of increasing land access for small farmers.
The prospective candidate should have a strong interest in the use of GIS, GPS and drone technologies for mapping land use. Holders of remote pilot license and experience conducting outreach with farmers will be beneficial. The position is a two-year appointment with possibility of extension depending on the availability of funds.
Duties and responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
- Plan and manage field trips effectively and efficiently;
- Collect field data pertinent to the primary objectives of the project;
- Conduct geospatial mapping and analyses using field, and high-resolution drone data;
- Organize and participate in stakeholder meetings;
- Provide support to students working on the project;
- Perform all other duties as assigned by project team leaders.
