The Institute for the Environment is seeking a Research Assistant to support projects on thermal imaging analytics, indoor air quality (IAQ), and environmental risk assessment in Hong Kong. This role involves data engineering, statistical analysis, geospatial analytics, and field sensor deployment with key responsibilities as follows:
- Thermal Image Analytics: Develop Python scripts for extracting features from thermal images and generate spatial maps for Hong Kong.
- Statistical Modeling: Implement statistical models and perform tests (e.g., regression, ANOVA) to analyze environmental data.
- IAQ Data Pipeline: Integrate and analyze IAQ data from sensors, producing dashboards and reports.
- Geospatial Analytics: Conduct risk mapping and ensure data quality and version control.
- Field Deployment: Set up sensors and data loggers, troubleshooting hardware issues and managing field schedules.
Requirements
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering/Science, Data Science, Computer Science, or Geography/Geomatics. The ideal candidate should be well-organized with good communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility, self-motivated, attentive to details and multi-task oriented; and be able to work independently and as a team player. Proficiency in Python and basic statistical analysis, familiarity with geospatial tools (QGIS/ArcGIS), and willing to perform field work. (Duration: 1 year)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.
