Prof. Hong K. LO is leading a research project titled “Improving Fleet & Driver Shift Operating Efficiency via a Next Generation Taxi Operating System”, funded by Smart Traffic Fund. The project aims to develop a taxi operating system for enhancing overall taxi operational efficiency by utilizing newly developed taxi meters to collect real-time vehicle information and trip data. The project team will develop an AI-assisted Insights Map to provide taxi drivers with information on potentially profitable trip locations. We are currently seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Research Assistant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify, acquire, and assess relevant datasets for project needs, performing data fusion processes and conducting in-depth statistical analyses to uncover patterns and insights.
- Manage and maintain the large-scale taxi trajectories and relevant databases, ensuring data quality and accessibility for the research team.
- Oversee the management of GPU/CPU server clusters for AI model training.
- Develop and train machine learning models for real-time taxi drivers’ profitability prediction.
- Support and perform other relevant duties as required.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree or above in Transportation Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related fields.
- Proficiency in the configuration of GPU/CPU clusters and management of high-speed storage dedicated to the clusters.
- Experience in large-scale Machine Learning model development; R&D experience in the industry is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of Python frameworks and databases (SQL); familiarity with additional programming languages such as C++ and Java is advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a self-motivated and organized approach to teamwork.
- Immediate availability is preferred.
