Research Assistant (OR/NBD/JJG2)

Job Description

The Signature Research Programme in Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders (“NBD”) is focused on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system, and the neural mechanisms underlying human neurological, psychiatric and ophthalmological disorders.

The Chronobiology and Sleep Laboratory (CSL) studies the effects of sleep and circadian rhythms on human performance and physiology. Research topics include improving sleep and wellbeing in shift workers and student populations. The research assistant will carry out research studies on behavioural interventions for improving sleep and cognitive performance. The studies include field- and laboratory methods of measuring sleep and wellbeing. Technical responsibilities include collecting and/or processing biological specimens, operating study equipment, monitoring progress of research protocols, applying EEG electrodes, and administering computer-based neurobehavioral tests to research participants. Additional roles include participant recruitment and data analyses.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, the life sciences, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate with participants, and to work in a team-based setting.
  • Have strong computer and/or analytical skills.
  • Prior experience with R or other programming languages is preferred but not required.
  • Able to work flexible hours to cover research study events.
  • Have an interest in pursuing an advanced degree (e.g. PhD or degree in medicine).
