Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the HKU Research Hub of Population Studies (the Population Hub), Faculty of Social Sciences(Ref.:536109), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
This position will immerse the appointees in both academic research and teaching in the multi-disciplinary team of the HKU Research Hub of Population Studies (https://www.socsc.hku.hk/rhps/) within the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Duties and Responsibilities
The appointees will be primarily responsible for the following:
- Involve in on-going research projects of the Population Hub
- Draft proposals, reports, and presentations relevant to the projects
- Perform advanced quantitative data analysis
- Publish high-quality academic papers in peer-reviewed journals
- Mentor junior research staff
- Teach one undergraduate or taught postgraduate course per year, if required; and
- Support and perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
The appointees are expected to have:
- A Ph.D. degree in the Social Sciences, Sociology, Demography, Statistics, Public Health, Social Work, or a relevant discipline
- A strong quantitative background and extensive experience in managing and analysing large and complex datasets; expertise in Computational Social Science and proficiency in longitudinal analyses, multilevel modelling, data visualisation, and state-of-the-art statistical models would be an advantage
- The ability to develop a strong body of high-quality publications in scholarly journals with global impact
- The ability to multitask and work under tight schedules to meet project deadlines
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- A strong commitment to teaching and training activities in the Population Hub and the Faculty
- A strong sense of self-motivation, responsibility, and work ethics
- Good analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
