Research Assistant Professor: Quantitative CT for Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging

Job Description

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Jan 21, 2026
Deadline: Jan 21, 2028 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure research track. Expertise is required in the specific area of CT physics, with focus on quantitative imaging methods, system performance evaluation, and translational research that bridges technical development and clinical use. The department is seeking candidates with experience in designing or applying photon-counting CT techniques to improve diagnostic accuracy or interventional guidance. Familiarity with clinical workflow integration or multi-disciplinary collaborations is also preferred. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include leading both collaborative and independent research in the areas of quantitative CT imaging physics and translational CT technology development relevant to diagnostic and interventional imaging. Research topics may include the development and validation of novel CT technologies-such as photon-counting CT, spectral CT, and ultra-high-resolution imaging-as well as the design of reconstruction algorithms, quantitative imaging biomarkers, and realistic 3D-printed CT phantoms to support translational studies.

The successful candidate will join the Research Division of the Department of Radiology and work closely with the Laboratory for Advanced Computed Tomography Imaging (LACTI). In addition to collaborating with faculty across the Research Division, the candidate will have opportunities to partner with investigators in Radiology, as well as clinical and engineering collaborators across the University. The successful candidate will be an essential member of team-based research efforts that advance the physics of CT imaging and drive translational innovations with clinical impact.

The department is particularly interested in candidates with experience in research in advancing quantitative CT imaging methodologies and their translational applications, grant writing, and securing extramural funding, as well as a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and conference contributions. Applicants are expected to be experienced in conducting both independent and collaborative research, along with experience mentoring students or trainees.
