Under the PolyU Academy for Artificial Intelligence (PAAI), the newly established Research Institute for Federated Learning (RIFL), aims to lead cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research at the intersection of privacy-preserving machine learning, foundation models, and decentralised multi-agent intelligence. In collaboration with the Department of Computing, the Institute is now inviting applications from outstanding candidates with expertise and experience in the following key areas:
- Federated learning & privacy-preserving AI
- Foundation model & agents (e.g., post-training, reinforcement learning, transfer learning, etc.)
- Multi-agent systems & collaborative AI
- AI for industrial applications (e.g., medical, finance, etc.)
Duties
The appointees will be required to:
- (a) conduct high-impact research as the primary duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;
- (b) publish high-quality research papers in top-tier conferences and journals such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, AAAI and IEEE TPAMI;
- (c) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level as assigned by the Unit or the RIFL;
- (d) co-supervise research students and research assistants;
- (e) undertake academic and institute administrative duties; and
- (f) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or their delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
- (a) have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics or a related discipline;
- (b) preferably have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience;
- (c) demonstrate a strong publication record in top-tier AI/ML conferences and journals;
- (d) demonstrate strong hands-on proficiency in deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch) and LLM fine-tuning libraries;
- (e) possess effective classroom teaching skills and student mentoring abilities; and
- (f) be highly proficient in written and spoken English.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
