Position Description
The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant Professor, for an individual leading a program in eye research who will be expected to engage in clinically-translatable work. This position is based at UW Medicine’s South Lake Union Campus in Seattle at the Vision Science Center with an anticipated start date of September/October 2026. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment with 3-year term, renewable for Research Assistant Professor appointment. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The base salary range for this position will be $10,083 to $11,667 per month ($120,996-$140,004 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform research within area of expertise, and engage in teaching of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, medical students, and clinical fellows. The successful candidate will be expected to secure extramural research grants
All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.
Qualifications
Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- A PhD in biomedical sciences or another relevant field (or foreign equivalent); an MD or MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent) is acceptable
- Minimum one year of postdoctoral research experience
- Track record of peer reviewed publications
