We are doing an R&D project involving one development team and one research team. For the research team, we plan to recruit 2 to 3 Research Assistants.

In this project, we plan to develop a job recommendation system for Special Educational Needs (SEN). The recommendations will be based not only on their demographic information, but also on their behavior in the games that will be developed for this project.

The research team, led by Professor Raymond WONG of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, is to design some AI recommendation models based on the demographic information of SEN and their behavior during their game playing.

The appointees will work closely with the AI Research Team of HKUST for the research component of the recommendation system.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design recommendation models (with/without user interaction)
2. Design reinforcement models based on user interaction data
3. Fine-tune models based on collected data
4. Implement models
5. Develop an API of the models for integration with the system component
6. Coordinate with the development team for dataset preparation and system integration
7. Conduct comprehensive testing of the research component and the whole integrated system
8. Design user studies to evaluate the performance of the recommendation system

Requirement

1. A bachelor’s degree or above in computer science or related disciplines
2. Practical understanding of software system design and cloud architecture
3. Relevant research experience and implementation experience about relevant models
4. Experience in PyTorch and Mongo
5. Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese
6. Experience with Vue.js, Node.js, Express.js, SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.) is a plus
7. Strong debugging and integration skills, experience in API development and/or experience in software testing and agile workflow are preferred

(Duration: 1 to 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of the 2-year contract.
