About the role:
This 18-month fixed-term position focuses on understanding the relationships between processing parameters, microstructure and material performance to develop high-performance 3D-printed components. The role includes metal powder characterisation, alloy manufacturing, microstructural analysis, mechanical testing, data interpretation and dissemination of research outcomes.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Samples manufacturing and metallographic preparation.
- Powder characterisation (particle size analysis, flowability and SEM).
- Microstructural characterisation (XRD, optical microscopy, SEM and EBSD).
- Mechanical testing.
- Write research papers for high-quality academic journals.
About the Department
The Department of Materials offers a multidisciplinary research environment supported by state-of-the-art materials processing, testing and characterisation facilities. The Loughborough Materials Characterisation Centre (LMCC) further provides advanced microscopy and characterisation capabilities, including XRD, SEM, EBSD and TEM, enabling high-quality experimental research across materials science and engineering.
About You
An ideal candidate should have some or all the following skills:
- Experience in metal additive manufacturing.
- Knowledge/background in Titanium alloys(desirable).
- Experience in microstructural characterisation (XRD, SEM, and EBSD).
- Experience in mechanical testing, data analysis with understanding of the fracture surfaces.
- Good report writing, and presentation skills.
- A track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals (an advantage).
