Research Associate in Ophthalmology

Description

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Applicants must have an M.D. and/or Ph.D degree.

Responsibilities may include conducting research on disease modeling and therapy development for OPA3-mediated ophthalmic diseases. Differentiate retinal ganglion cells and retinal organoids from knock-in and patient induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines and relevant isogenic control lines.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to perform structural, functional, and metabolic studies on developed models. Perform genome, transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome studies to identify key outcome measures that can be used to asses therapeutic efficacy. Screen for commercially available as well as new drugs in diseased cell models. Apply CRISPR technology to both generate iPSC disease-models and develop gene therapy interventions. Develop appropriate delivery platform, LNP- or AAV-mediated. Write manuscripts to be published in peer-reviewed journals. Participate and present in scientific meetings and conferences, laboratory and department meetings. Prepare grant proposals.
