Job Description

The Nalanda Professorship in India-China Studies is a unique partnership between the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nalanda Library Fund Limited (NLFL), grounded in a mutual commitment to research excellence and international cultural exchange. This initiative seeks to advance the study of India-China relations by exploring the deep historical, cultural, economic, and intellectual ties between these two great civilizations.

The successful applicant will be hosted at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and will work with the Centre on Asia and Globalisation (CAG) and the Nalanda Visiting Professor based at the Asia Research Institute (ARI). The Nalanda visiting professorship will be held by a distinguished expert in India-China studies, who will conduct original research and oversee a long-term project to compile an encyclopaedia of India-China relations. The initiative will also include archival research, graduate training, public lectures, workshops, and an annual conference—aimed at establishing India-China Studies as a dynamic and influential field of scholarship.

  • Assist the Centre on Asia and Globalisation’s work on the Nalanda India-China project and other cognate projects on the geopolitics of India-China relations
  • Support the Nalanda project’s research projects and activities
  • Support the research of the Nalanda Visiting Professor
  • Prepare background briefs, presentations, and monitor development on specific issues
  • Conduct independent research, and write academic and policy research papers and reports
  • Compile and manage research materials and outputs
  • Provide editorial and management support to research projects, events, and publications
  • Organise and support events, including academic and policy conferences and workshops
  • Undertake other administrative duties related to research projects
  • Social media content management and website maintenance

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree holder in a discipline within the social sciences and/or humanities
  • Expertise or interest in India-China studies, historical and/or contemporary
  • Strong analytical ability and strong self-motivation
  • Able to work independently
  • An ability to engage with research and policy communities in Asia and around the world
  • A strong sense of collegiality
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills in English and Mandarin, essential due to role requirements
  • Ability/experience with social media content management tools
