By communicating, the devices need to generate a common approximation of this source within a defined quality level. Only if this is done can the behavior of the devices be explained and predicted in a deterministic manner.
In this PhD position, you will analyze the above task on an information-theoretic basis with the ultimate goal of implementing a resilient coordination protocol in the ACES Lab provided by the Institute of Theoretical Information Technology. The position is part of a larger project shared with TU Dresden which aims at designing, analyzing and implementing resilient communication systems.
Your responsibilities
- Review the research literature related to the assigned problem.
- Do a theoretical analysis of the assigned problem using tools from information theory and related fields.
- Design a solution which is implementable on a computer and in hardware.
- Collaborate with colleagues to implement the solution in hardware at the ACES lab at the Institute of Theoretical Information Technology.
- Participate in international conferences.
- Publish results at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.
Your qualifications
- Excellent master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of Information Theory, in particular Shannon Theory.
- Knowledge of coding theory.
- Interest in mathematics.
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence is a bonus.
Our offer
- Collaboration with leading researchers at TUM and TU Dresden.
- Opportunity to contribute to information theory with impact in the real world.
- A dynamic, international research environment and support for publication at top conferences/journals.
- Subject to personal qualifications, employees are remunerated in salary group E 13 TV-L.
How to apply
Please send us your application by e-mail (jobs.lti.cit@tum.de with "ITSC" in the subject line), including the following documents:
- CV, copies of relevant certificates and diplomas (or transcript of records if not yet finished).
- A suggestion how to information-theoretically tackle the sensing and coordination problem described above.
- Master thesis and up to 3 publications (if available).
- Contact information for two references.
