Offer Description
Applications must include the following documents (submitted with a signed application):
- Curriculum vitae, including a list of scientific publications
- Combined motivation letter and research agenda (1–2 pages), including alignment with the research profile of the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences and a plan of future research
- Proof of a PhD in sociology
- Proof of registration in the Register of Scientists and Artists maintained by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth of the Republic of Croatia
- Proof of citation and indexing of scientific publications in relevant databases
- Copies of scientific publications in PDF format
- Confirmation of participation in scientific research projects (project name, project holder, project leader, project duration)
- Evidence of meeting the requirements for the position in accordance with the Regulations on Appointments to Scientific Positions issued by the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences (separate documentation for each requirement)
- If applicable, a decision confirming appointment to the scientific title of Research Associate in the scientific field of Sociology
- If applicable, an electronic record of employment history from the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute (HZMO) (e-employment record)

- Obtained a PhD degree in the scientific field of sociology
- Registration in the Register of Scientists and Artists maintained by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth of the Republic of Croatia
- Fulfilled requirements prescribed by the National University, Scientific and Artistic Criteria (Official Gazette No. 42/26) (hereinafter: the National Criteria) for appointment to the relevant scientific position of Research Associate
- Fulfilled requirements prescribed by the conditions set out in the Regulations on Appointments to Scientific Positions issued by the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences for the position in question (https://www.pilar.hr/wp-content/images/stories/dokumenti/_akti_instituta/Pravilnik_ZRM_2015.pdf)
- Experience working on competitive scientific research projects
- Proficiency in software for data analysis
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in both Croatian and English, a strong work ethic, outstanding organizational abilities, and a collaborative team-oriented approach
Specific Requirements
Additional criteria (considered an advantage in the selection process):
- Experience in international research projects under the HORIZON framework
- At least one published authored scholarly monograph
- Research experience in the areas of local development, tourism, and island and coastal regions

Eligibility criteria
The competition is open to persons of both sexes.
Applicants who wish the provisions of Annex I to the National Criteria to be applied to their selection pursuant to Article 98 of the National Criteria are required to indicate this in their application.
Applicants who, pursuant to special regulations, are entitled to priority in employment and who have priority over other candidates only under equal conditions must invoke this right in their application for the public competition. Candidates who invoke this right in their application are required to submit the relevant documents as proof of their status, as well as other supporting documents in accordance with the special law regulating this right. Candidates who are entitled to priority in employment pursuant to the Act on Croatian Homeland War Veterans and Members of Their Families (Official Gazette Nos. 121/17, 98/19, 84/21 and 156/23) and the Act on Civilian Victims of the Homeland War (Official Gazette No. 84/21) are required to invoke this right in their application, explicitly stating the relevant legal provision and article. In addition to the evidence demonstrating that they meet the required conditions, they must also submit all the necessary supporting documents available at the following link of the Ministry of Croatian Veterans: https://branitelji.gov.hr/zaposljavanje-843/843. They have priority over other candidates only under equal conditions.
Selection process
By submitting an application for the competition, the applicant is deemed to have given consent to the collection and processing of the personal data provided in the application and accompanying documentation for the purpose of conducting the selection procedure.
An application shall be considered duly submitted if it contains all the information and documents specified in the competition notice. Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.
If necessary, interviews will be conducted with candidates who are shortlisted. Candidates will be notified of the interview date and time electronically.
Applications accompanied by the required supporting documents must be submitted within 30 days from the date of publication of the competition notice in the Official Gazette, exclusively by email to: natjecaj@pilar.hr. The subject line of the email must state: “natječaj znanstveni suradnik - sociologija” (“Competition – Research Associate – Sociology”).
Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the competition via the Institute’s website at https://www.pilar.hr/natjecaji. Candidates will not be notified individually. Publication of the notice of the competition results on the Institute’s website shall be deemed to constitute notification of all candidates of the outcome of the competition.
