About the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT)

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore brings together physicists, computer scientists and engineers to do basic research on quantum physics and to build devices based on quantum phenomena. Experts in this new discipline of quantum technologies are applying their discoveries in computing, communications, and sensing.

CQT is hosted by the National University of Singapore. The Centre also has staff at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design. With some 200 staff and students, it offers a friendly and international work environment.

Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional Quantum Computing Hardware Researcher for the development of the next-generation quantum computer. Building on our established 20-qubit platform, you will play a pivotal role in scaling our quantum computing capabilities to a 50+ qubit system that will be accessible to external users and researchers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and commission a 50+ qubit superconducting quantum computer, advancing from our current 20-qubit platform
  • Optimize quantum processor performance, focusing on gate fidelities, performance for selected algorithms and scalability
  • Integrate quantum processors into a complete, operational quantum computing system with robust control and readout infrastructure
  • Develop and implement calibration protocols and error mitigation strategies for large-scale quantum systems
  • Collaborate with software and applications teams to ensure system accessibility and usability for external users
  • Contribute to the development of Singapore's quantum computing ecosystem and research community

Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field with focus on quantum computing hardware
  • Strong experimental background in superconducting quantum computing, including hands-on experience with qubit fabrication, characterization, and control
  • Demonstrated expertise in quantum processor optimization and performance enhancement
  • Experience with cryogenic systems, microwave engineering, and quantum control electronics
  • Track record of publications or contributions to quantum computing hardware projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience scaling quantum systems beyond 20 qubits
  • Knowledge of quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computing
  • Familiarity with cloud-based quantum computing platforms and user access systems
  • Strong programming skills (Python, MATLAB, or similar) for experiment control and data analysis
