Research Fellow (Stem Cell Engineering & Regenerative Medicine)

Job Description

We are seeking one (1) talented postdoctoral researchers to join the Synthetic Biology Translational Research Programme (TRP) at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Our research focuses on engineering functional and therapeutic stem cells, developing stem cell–based models for regenerative medicine, and exploring partial cellular reprogramming as a strategy to reverse aging and treat aging-associated diseases.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator to develop next-generation tools and systems for stem cell engineering, cell fate control, and rejuvenation biology. Appointments will be initially made on a 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities:

  1. Generate and engineer functional and therapeutic stem cells, including pluripotent stem cells and stem cell–derived lineages;
  2. Develop stem cell–based models (e.g., organoids, embryoids, 3D cultures) for studying regeneration, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic responses;
  3. Design and implement strategies for partial cellular reprogramming, rejuvenation, and reversal of aging phenotypes
  4. Perform high-level molecular biology, stem cell culture, gene editing, and multi-omics analyses
  5. Collaborate with team members and supervise junior researchers, including research assistants and students;
  6. Assist in any other duties delegated by the Principal Investigator and group leaders.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  1. Hold a PhD in Stem Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Regenerative Medicine, Bioengineering, or a related field;
  2. Have strong hands-on experience with stem cell culture (ESCs, iPSCs), directed differentiation, and advanced cell biology techniques;
  3. Be proficient in gene editing (CRISPR-based methods), molecular cloning, and functional assays;
  4. Demonstrate strong analytical skills, scientific rigor, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
  5. Have a track record of publications in reputable international journals.

Highly desirable:

  1. Experience with organoid/embryoid systems, 3D culture, or multicellular model development;
  2. Expertise in epigenetic reprogramming, aging biology, senescence, or partial reprogramming protocols
  3. Familiarity with high-throughput screening, single-cell technologies, or systems biology tools.

Remuneration will be commensurate to the candidate's qualifications and experience. Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Ronghui Li, at ronghui.li@nus.edu.sg

Formal application: Please submit your application, indicating job reference number and a detailed CV (including personal particulars, academic and employment history, complete list of publications/oral presentations and full contacts of 3 referees). Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
