Summary: A research position for one Research Grant (“Bolsa de Investigação Pós doutoral“) is open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project LESYNCH – Limits and Efficiency of Coding Against Synchronization Errors. This project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) with the reference ERC-2025-STG – 101218842.
One postdoctoral research scholarship available within the LESYNCH ERC project to explore the application of probabilistic methods and tools from pseudorandomness to improve our understanding of the limits of coding against synchronization errors and to construct improved synchronization error-correcting codes with efficient encoding/decoding procedures.

Work Objectives: The successful candidate will contribute to the ERC LESYNCH project. The aim of the work is to apply probabilistic methods and pseudo-random techniques to obtain new results on the limits of coding against synchronisation errors and to develop new constructions of synchronisation error-correcting codes with efficient encoding and decoding algorithms.
Place of work: The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações – Lisboa, under the supervision of Professor Dr. João Ribeiro.
Duration: 12 months, with the possibility of renewal (according to the regulations defined by FCT). Start date: October 2026 or soon thereafter.

Eligibility criteria
- The PhD must have been obtained in the last 3 years and the research work shouldn't have been developed at IT, along with the other conditions set by the Fellowship Regulation of Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia;
- PhD in Computer Science or closely related field;
- Candidates should have prior research experience on probabilistic methods in coding theory and on the application of tools from pseudo randomness to construct error-correcting codes with efficient encoding/decoding procedures.
Selection process
Selection criteria:
The candidates will be evaluated based on:
- C1 (50%) CV of the candidate
- C2 (50%) Relevance of the candidate's profile to the position
Each criteria, and the final classification F will be evaluated in a scale (0-20).
The candidates will be ordered according to: F = C1 x 50% + C2 x 50%
The Jury has the right do not admit any of the candidates that applied for this position whenever they consider that no candidate meets the minimum requirements for the position.
