Offer Description
A call is open for 2 research grants, under the Continuous and Personalized Multi-Distance Binaural Project, developed in co-promotion between Sound Particles and ESMAE – Faculty of Performing Arts, approved by ANI – Agência Nacional de Inovação and funded by COMPETE2030, PT2030 E FEDER, under the following conditions:
1. Scientific Area
Scholarship A – Musical Composition, Production and Sound Design in Spatial Audio (compositional exploration of the prototypes, creative workflows, use in DAWs, music production, sound design, and monitoring of the creative processes associated with the project).
Scholarship B – Sound Art, Immersive Creation and Artistic Applications of Binaural Audio (sound installation, sound art, immersive creation, performance, artistic documentation, and preparation of dissemination activities and public demonstrations).
2. Admission Requirements
2.1 – General admission requirements for the research grant:
- National of Portugal or national of another Member State of the European Union;
- National of a third country;
- Stateless person or beneficiary of political refugee status;
- Holder of a Bachelor’s degree or legally equivalent qualification;
- Student enrolled in a Master’s programme aiming to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the award of the respective academic degree, integrated or not in R&D projects.
2.2 Specific requirements:
- Enrolled in a Master’s programme in the fields of: Music; Composition; Sound Arts and Technologies or related areas considered appropriate to the work plan.
3. Work Plan
To collaborate in the following work plan of the project:
- Support the project's artistic productions;
- Assist and work alongside the composers and artists involved;
- Organize working sessions and testing sessions;
- Document the creative processes;
- Support concerts, installations, presentations, and demonstrations;
- Contribute to the scientific and artistic dissemination of the results;
- Also develop their own artistic work using the project's prototypes.

7. Working Period and System
Scholarship contract for 12 months, potentially renewable for periods of 6 months, up to the limit of the project’s execution period, on an exclusive basis, in accordance with the applicable regulations.
8. Amount of Monthly Allowance
The amount of the grant corresponds to € 1.040,98, according to FCT's table (click here for the table), paid monthly, plus the reimbursement of the voluntary social insurance (SSV), amounting to € 158,99 per month, in accordance with the regulations (membership of the SSV is up to the scholarship holder).
9. Method of Selection and Composition of the Jury
9.1. Methods of candidate selection:
The selection methods will be in accordance with the following selection criteria and respective scores:
CRITERION A - Curriculum evaluation, weighted at 50%
Subcriterion A1 – Academic qualifications (Bachelor’s degree in Music or related scientific fields);
Subcriterion A2 – Relevant prior experience, particularly in the areas of music production, composition, sound design, or other relevant related fields;
Subcriterion A3 – Relevant prior experience in music technologies, programming, or other relevant related fields;
Subcriterion A4 – Knowledge of sound spatialization, musical electroacoustics, audio, music computing, or other relevant related fields.
Classification criterion A = (25% x A1) + (25% x A2) + (25% x A3) + (25% x A4)
CRITERION B – Interview, weighted at 50%
Interview, with a weighting of 50%, to be conducted with the four candidates with the highest ranking under Criterion A.
FINAL CLASSIFICATION = (50% x A) + (50% x B)
9.2 – Tiebreaker Criteria:
In situations of an even final classification, the following tie-breaking criteria shall be applied, in descending order:
- Having a higher classification in criterion B.
- Having a higher classification in sub-criterion A1.
- If the tie still stands, the tie-breaker will be made by a vote of the members of the jury, with the chairman of the jury having the casting vote in the event of a new tie.
9.3 – Reasons for exclusion of applicants:
Candidates may be excluded from the competition for the following reasons:
- Not holding the requirements set in the announcement of the competition (point 2.).
- Obtaining a score of less than 9.5 in any of the evaluation components are considered excluded from the competition and will not be evaluated in the subsequent component(s).
- Non-attendance of the applicant to the interview, when applicable, or his/her unwillingness to provide any additional clarifications that may be requested, will be deemed as a withdrawal from the application process.

10. Publication/Notification of Results
Applicants will be electronically notified of the competition results, through the e-mail address registered in the application, in accordance with the deadlines set forth in the Research Grant Regulations of P.PORTO (approved by Order P.PORTO-P-015-2020 – Technical University of Porto, Decree-Law No. 145/2026 of 17 July), and the minutes are obligatory stored by the jury in the support platform of this competition: https://domus.ipp.pt/concursos/esmae/pessoal/
11. Period of Application and Submission Form
11.1. Period of application
The call is open for a period of 10 working days, from 14/09/2026 to 25/09/2026.
11.2. Form of submission of applications
Applications must be submitted by completing the electronic application form available at https://domus.ipp.pt/concursos/esmae/pessoal/ and submitting it, together with the remaining required documents, by the end of the established deadline.
Applications sent by e-mail or by any other electronic means other than the established one, will be excluded.
11.3. Application instruction documents

- Certificates of qualifications, or the corresponding recognition (with conversion of the respective final classification) when it awarded by foreign higher education institutions, without prejudice to the provisions of paragraph 1 of the following point.
- Proof of enrolment in a Master’s programme, without prejudice to the provisions set out in paragraph 2 of the following point;
- Declaration by the applicant stating, under honor, statement that:
- He/she is aware of the Research Grant Regulations of P.PORTO (approved by Order P.PORTO-P-015-2020 – Technical University of Porto, Decree-Law No. 145/2026 of 17 July) in force and commits to comply with it;
- Does not exceed, with the conclusion of the grant contract in question, the maximum period legally established, consecutive or non-consecutive.
- Other documents that the candidate considers relevant.
11.4. Application Documents: Specific Conditions
The supporting documents referred to in number 2 of the previous paragraph of the type:
- Academic degree(s) and diploma(s), or the corresponding recognition when awarded by foreign higher education institutions - mandatory whenever the title of degree is a condition for admission or selection criterion for Applicants, but may be waived in the application phase and replaced by a declaration of honor by the applicant, in cases where this condition only occurs at the stage of contracting the grant.
- Proof of enrollment in a study cycle leading to an academic degree or in a non-degree course, if he/she is not a student of Technical University of Porto - mandatory whenever the enrollment is a condition for admission, being that the grant will be subject to the existence of a valid enrollment within six months from the date of notification of approval in scientific evaluation.
12. Deadlines and Procedures for Complaints and Appeals
From the final decision a complaint may be presented within 15 working days, or an appeal to the Director of the ESMAE – Faculty of Performing Arts within 30 working days. Both may be presented after the corresponding notification, under the terms of article 12 of the P.PORTO's Research Grant Regulation (approved by Order P.PORTO-P-015-2020 – Technical University of Porto, Decree-Law No. 145/2026 of 17 July).
