This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new Center for Infectious Diseases Genomics, working as part of a team to investigate antibiotic-resistant bacteria evolve and succeed in the healthcare environment.
- Perform in vitro assays of bacterial growth under various conditions, including by quantitative culture and growth curves of Klebsiella (Biosafety level 2). This includes management and organization of a large strain collection and set up of high throughput assays, conjugation assays, in vitro evolution experiments.
- Molecular Biology experiments including: DNA extraction, PCR amplification, cloning and construction of mutants, submission of samples for next generation (Illumina) sequencing, quality evaluation of sequencing results, and initial analysis of sequencing data using graphical interface or line-command software packages. This work includes helping to troubleshoot and optimize the experiments above.
- Ordering of lab supplies and maintaining inventory levels.
- Maintain laboratory resources including online procedure manual and bacterial strain collection.
- Assist with maintenance of laboratory records, and preparation for inspection, for chemical and biological safety certification.
High school diploma or Associate's degree and one to three years experience.
Bachelor's degree in related field. At least one year of related experience, including with DNA extraction, PCR, amplicon sequencing, sterile technique, culture and safety working with biosafety level 2 pathogens.
