The Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária (National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research) hereby announces an open call for a research scholarship for an university graduate (BI) under the project PEPAC-C[contact details available in the full listing] - "Conservação de Espécies Hortícolas", under the following conditions:
1. Type and number of vacancies:
1 research scholarship for a university graduate.
2. Requirements:
a) Degree in Agronomy/Agricultural Sciences (plant production branch) or Biology.
b) Proof of enrollment in a 2nd cycle of studies leading to a Master’s degree in the area of Agronomy/Agricultural Sciences (plant production branch) or Biology, or proof of entry in a study cycle not conferring an academic degree, to be presented until the contract is signed.
3. Preference factors:
- a) Experience in experimental and demonstration activities;
- b) Academic training in Plant Genetic Resources;
- c) Experience in data analysis and multivariate statistics;
- d) Basic computer skills from a user perspective;
- e) Good verbal expression skills and fluency in Portuguese and English;
- f) Professional rigor and good teamwork skills;
- g) Immediate availability.
4. Work plan:
- a) Carrying out activities of ex situ conservation of horticultural germplasm;
- b) Development of phenotypic and molecular characterization activities;
- c) Preparation of data matrices resulting from conservation and characterization activities for inclusion in the National Inventory, on the Grin Global platform;
- d) Collection, processing and statistical analysis of data generated during experimental activities;
- e) Technical and scientific support;
- f) Collaboration in the preparation of technical reports, papers and dissemination activities.
5. Legislation and Regulations:
Statute of Scientific Research Grant, approved by Law nº 40/2004, of 18 August, amended and republished by Decree-Law nº 202/2012 of 27 August and amended by Decree-Law nº 233/2012 of 29 October, Law nº 12/2013 of 29 January and Decree-Law nº 89/2013 of 9 July and Decree-Law nº 123/2019. Regulation nº 950/2019, of 16 December, which approves the FCT, I.P. Research Grants Regulation available at (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento) under Decree-Law nº 123/2019, of 28 August, which updated several provisions of the EBI.
6. Duration:
The grant will last 6 months, starting on 15th September 2026, renewable up to a maximum of 30 months.
7. Monthly allowance:
According to the values of the Research Grants awarded by FCT in Portugal (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), the monthly maintenance allowance is 1090.98 €/month, and the form of payment to the grant holder is by bank transfer.
The monthly grant amount is according to the grant chart of the grants directly awarded by FCT, IP, in the country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) Regulation nº 950/2019 of 16 December. The periodicity of payment of the grant is monthly and by bank transfer.
Research grant recipients benefit from personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, may ensure the exercise of the right to social security by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme in accordance with the Code of Contributory Regimes of Social Security.
8. Workplace:
The work will be carried out at the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research, I.P. (INIAV), at the Braga Innovation Center, at Quinta de S. José, S. Pedro de Merelim, 4700-859, Braga.
9. Scientific supervision:
The fellow will be supervised by Senior Technicians Violeta Rolim Lopes and Isabel Gomes da Silva.
10. Additional documents:
The application must contain the following documents:
- Detailed curriculum vitae (dated and signed) - mandatory;
- Motivation letter (dated and signed) addressed to Engineer Ana Maria Barata, which must include the candidate's full identification and reference to the present call for applications no. 30/2026/BI;
- Academic qualifications certificates and documents (digital copies) proving the elements considered most relevant - mandatory;
- Declaration of honor regarding the conditions that are not fulfilled in official documents, namely the availability for the development of the field work, within INIAV, I.P. working hours;
- Other documents that the applicant considers relevant for the evaluation of his/her technical and scientific merit.
11. Selection method and its value: Selection criteria:
The selection method, of an eliminatory nature, will consist of curriculum evaluation and an interview, if the jury considers it necessary.
The criteria for evaluation of the applications shall be based on the combined assessment of the following criteria:
AQ - Academic qualifications;
PT / PE / PA - Professional training, professional experience and profile adequacy;
Final grade of the bachelor's degree: 60%
- 10 ≥ Final grade < 12: 12
- 12 ≥ Final grade < 14: 14
- 14 ≥ Final grade < 16: 16
- 16 ≥ Final grade < 18: 18
- 18 ≥ Final grade ≤ 20: 20
PT / PE / PA - Professional training, professional experience and profile adequacy
Professional experience/internship in a laboratory or field setting: 40%
- Until 6 meses: 10
- Between 6 e 12 meses: 15
- More than 12 meses: 20
E - Should the jury deem it necessary, an individual interview will be held with the candidates to assess the profile adequacy.
- Weak: 2
- Good: 4
- Very good: 6
Final Classification (FC):
Formula for evaluation: CF = 0.6 AQ + 0.4 PT/PE/PA or CF = 0.4 AQ + 0.3 PT/PE/PA + 0.3 E
12. Composition of the Selection Jury:
The jury has the following composition:

Substitute Member – Filomena Rocha
13. Announcement / notification of results:
Based on the classification obtained by the candidates, the jury will proceed to their ranking. The lists of admitted and excluded candidates and the final classification will be sent to the respective e-mails and posted at the premises of the services of INIAV, I.P. in Braga.
After the publication of the results, the candidates shall be considered automatically notified so that, if they wish to comment on the hearing of the interested parties, they may do so within 10 working days from the date of publication. At the end of this period, the selected candidate shall be notified in writing of the award of the scholarship and communication of the starting date.
In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the immediately better ranked candidate will be notified, and so on.

15. Deadline for submissions:
