This position will lead and contribute to a portfolio of externally funded, applied social science projects at the University of Oklahoma's Institute for Public Policy Research & Analysis (IPPRA). Research areas may include extreme weather and climate, water resources, energy systems, environmental policy, and other interdisciplinary challenges at the intersection of science, technology, and public policy. The Research Scientist will design and conduct interdisciplinary research, publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, develop competitive proposals for external funding, and collaborate with academic, government, industry, and operational partners. The successful candidate will lead research projects from conception through dissemination, producing high-quality scholarship as well as policy-relevant products that support evidence-based decision making. The position also involves regular engagement with local, state, and federal officials to ensure research addresses real-world challenges and informs public policy and practice in Oklahoma and across the nation. Through these activities, the Research Scientist will help translate research into actionable knowledge that strengthens communities and improves public decision making.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative research environment and demonstrate the initiative, intellectual curiosity, and organizational skills needed to lead multiple research projects simultaneously. They will have a strong background in the social sciences, experience designing and conducting rigorous quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research, and a demonstrated commitment to producing high-quality scholarship that informs public policy and practice. The successful candidate will have a record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, developing competitive proposals for externally funded research, and collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams and external partners. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, as is the ability to translate complex research findings into practical insights for policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders.
