About the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology
The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology (EAS) is highly interdisciplinary and covers broadly all fields of Earth and space science. EAS hosts a range of undergraduate degrees, including B.S. programs in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS), Solid Earth and Planetary Sciences (SEP), and Environmental Science (ENVS), and hosts a distinct interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Ocean Science and Engineering in collaboration with the School of Biological Sciences and Environmental Engineering. Job Summary
A research scientist position in ice sheet modeling and scientific software development is available at the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech. The research scientist will work collaboratively on projects focused on developing open-source scientific software tools for studying the evolution of glaciers and ice sheets. Specifically, research will be conducted to determine how to estimate the subglacial properties by assimilating observations into ice sheet models and the influence of these estimates on future ice sheet change.

Responsibilities
The individual will be expected to:
- Further develop a data assimilation system to estimate subglacial properties within an ice sheet model
- Continue developing and maintain a cloud-based research web tool for glaciologists
- Assist in mentoring students on topics related to scientific software and ice sheet models
Required Qualifications
- A Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
- A Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
- A Doctoral degree
Preferred Qualifications
- A background in high-performance computing and earth sciences
- Experience with ice sheet models
- Excellent scientific software development skills
- Excellent organizational and collaborative skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- The ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing graduate education
- The ability to engage in high-impact practices that support deep learning for student success
Proposed Salary
Annual salary range: $72,000 - $75,000. Commensurate with education and experience.
