Research Scientist II
Job Summary
The University of Mississippi’s National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) invites applications for a Research Scientist II to join the High-Speed Aeroacoustics Research Group (HSAG). HSAG is seeking a candidate to lead implementation of novel diagnostic techniques and capabilities for hypersonic ground test customers for various DoD, DoE and NASA related opportunities. Specifically, there is a need to develop and mature radiometric and spectroscopic imaging measurement and simulation tools using CFD data, line-by-line spectral database output, and radiative transfer calculations with a specific focus on turbulence dynamics in complex flows.
Job Description
The candidate shall act in a leadership role in test planning and execution within the High-Speed Aeroacoustics Research Group (HSAG) by fostering a culture of communication and coordinating team efforts to deploy diagnostics, operate test programs, and analyze and produce data products. The selected candidate must be eligible for U.S. Security Clearance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in the practice of modern fluid-mechanics measurements (e.g. PIV, LDV, LDA, DIC, PLIF, Shack-Hartmann, hot wire arrays, microphone arrays, Kulites, etc.).
- Demonstrated familiarity with correlation-based analytical methods (e.g. wavenumber-frequency decomposition, POD, wave-packet analysis, array processing).
- Demonstrated experience in stereo photogrammetry, wavelength modulated tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (WM TDLAS), IR thermography for heat flux estimates, background oriented schlieren (BOS), pressure sensitive paint (PSP), and hyperspectral imaging.
- Possession of a Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Science, Applied Physics, or a closely related field and at least five years experimental research experience in an applicable field.
- The selected candidate must be eligible for U.S. Security Clearance.
The minimum salary for this position is $105,000.
